Long and hot summer days are coming in many regions and for cycling ethusiasts a hot day could make them feel awful. Particularly in long distance rides, you should be more careful and take some precautions for summer cycling.
1. Take precaution for dehydration
It’s probably the most important issue to be dehydrated. You should drink enough water while cycling. But drinking much water could not make you feel good. It is better to drink often but little at every turn. You could also drink any other liquid if you desire but water is always better.
An iteresting incident happened in Giro D’Italia. Young cyclists Luka Pibernik (23) celebrated his victory believing he’s finished the race but he didn’t.
It was the 2nd time of Luka Pibernik in the this Grand Tour Race and I guess he was excited more than enough. When he thought that he has finished the lap, there was one more lap more. The other cyclists passed him naturally and go on the race for 6 kilometers more. When he realized that the race hasn’t finished yet, it was too late.
Even I’m interested in cycling I didn’t hear before that my city is the part of European Cycling Challenge 2017 this year. Ironic.
I live in İzmir which is one of the most beautiful and (wants to) bike lover city in Turkey. City government tries to do something nice about cycling day by day. Like bike ways (even they’re short, but important anyway), rental points and being in the events about cycling etc. Accordingly, city has taken the part in the European Cycling Challenge.
After 4 week challenge I thought that it could be nice to take some break. I was wondering whether I’m gonna miss cycling or not.
I wasn’t cycling regularly 2 months before today. I was just cycling some days and riding it for commuting sometimes. But it wasn’t easy to cycle for commuting every time. Than I quit my job interestingly and I decided to cycle while I was looking for a new job.
Fishermen left their boats on the lake until the next fishing. They’re lonely boats now. They look like tired. Tired from fishing for many years.
There’s a nice green house upper left. It’s maybe a fisherman’s house. He wants to keep his fishing boat in front of his house. Because it’s necessary for living.
Finally I’ve finished the 5 miles a day challenge. It went beyond 5 miles a day and it made me happy in general. I thought that I should finish the challenge at the end of the 4th week cause I was afraid to be bored cycling. Being in a challenge could be hard and If I didn’t want to give up cycling for the next days. So, I’ve decided to finish at the right time for me.
So the last week has started over 8 miles and continued again over 8 miles in the day after. The 3rd day was awesome cause I could do over 10 miles. In the two days before the last day my performance was very poor. I thought that it could be the hot weather and the exhaustion of last days. I was in a nice town last 4 days of the challenge, I enjoyed but these poor performance was unlikable.
Challenge: Day #31
Yes! This is the final day and this is the new record day for me. I cycled under the shining sun and it was wonderful maybe due to the pleasure of accomplishing the mission. It was hard because I made an extra effort to cycle for highest distance of the challenge. I did 11,34 miles which is perfect for me. I’m so happy cause it showed me that I can do more in the near future.
I’m gonna write about to analyze my challenge. But I can say that it was a great experience for the person who can’t discipline oneself like me and I like it with the positive and negative aspects.
